Using the Serralves Foundation Artists Books Collection as a starting point, the theme of the schools’ project promoted by the Education Service in 2008-2009 sought to engage in a reflection about the idea of book.
A special attention was given to form, contents, materials and book production techniques, taking into account a diverse range approaches – writing, drawing, painting, photography, printing – either on the page or on other supports. In order to stimulate learning and develop creativity non-conventional criteria were followed.
This exhibition features works created in schools ranging from pre-schooling level up to high school level. The featured works resulted from different trajectories and interpretations of their authors, under the orientation of teachers and education technicians.
The exhibition space comes to life through the interaction with visitors, subverting “reading” rules and inviting them to playfully enjoy the object-books, as well as to watch small film-books and to experiment.
