We challenge you to discover who lives in this space, between the plants and the land, or between the flowerbeds and the greenhouse: build a garden with magical powers where imagined creatures live, with shapes and colours that have never been seen before! Do you accept the challenge?Design and Coordination: Carlos Carvalho3-7 July, 14:00-17:0010-14 July, 9:30-12:30

The yellow line and the magic boxWhy can we say that this box is magical? Do trees, stones, leaves, or snails come out of the box? And can all these things be kept on sheets of paper? In this workshop let’s add our imagination to the world that we observe, smell, hear and touch ... Always attentive to the places that the yellow line takes us and the stories that it remembers to tell us!Design and Coordination: Andreia Coutinho, Magda Silva14-18 August, 14:00-17:00
My booksHow can books help us to get to know each other better? We’re going to discover some very special books made by Artists, and then we’ll build our own books: books that move like filmic images, books that transform as we turn each new page, books that hide secrets and books that challenge us for a game. What do these books say about us?Design and Coordination: Joana Nascimento, Sofia Santos31 July-4 August, 9:30-12:30
Looking for paintingLet's go there and get ready for the painting to search for things! Between paints and papers, we almost don’t need paintbrushes! Some sponges, fabrics, mirrors?! ... Ah !! And with some stamps and stencils! Everything can help us, we just need to begin!Design and Coordination: Magda Silva, Rita Faustino21-25 August, 9:30-12:30
An artist isn’t a cook, but…An artist isn’t a cook, but ... he seems to be one! Works of art that can be eaten, smelled and touched? I don’t believe it! In this workshop we’ll meet artists who use bread to make works of art that can be eaten, paintings that emit aromas and much more that we won’t reveal ... but let’s start experimenting!Design and Coordination: Inês Caetano, Rita Faustino21-25 August, 14:00-17:0028 August-1 September, 9:30-12:30 Putting sounds to noiseWhat sound matches a straight line or a scribble? Is it strident or patient? Would a big circle or a small dot correspond to a trombone or a xylophone? Words that are spoken, sung or whispered are also mixed up... Drawings that are musical scores? Music that creates drawings? Let’s hear the music, maestro! We’re going to know, listen, create and interpret graphic musical scores. We’ll explore the universe of sound, passing through music, sound, sound landscape and experimental poetry. Between games, images and other collages, we’ll "prick up" our ears and put sounds to noise!Design and Coordination: Andreia Coutinho, Rita Faustino26-30 June, 14:00-17:0014-18 August, 9:30-12:3028 August-1 September, 14:00-17:00
What does the summer taste of?What does the summer taste of? It tastes like colourful salads, crunchy salty snacks, juicy fruits, and frosty ice creams. In the Park and the Vegetable Garden, we can discover some Mediterranean ingredients, herbs, trees and shrubs of various fruits. Want to prepare and savour some healthy sweet and savoury recipes for snacks and picnics? Well come here and explore Nature while cooking with us!Design and Coordination: Dina Marques3-7 July, 9:30-12:3010-14 July, 14:00-17:00
Truth is stranger than fiction! What living beings inhabit the planet? Do we know all the creatures that exist or have existed? How many have we never found, even though they’re so close to us? Did you know that there are animals which have more than one heart and plants that have aerial roots? Or that the Internet works like a forest’s roots? What oddities are there in Nature that we don’t even imagine could be possible? In this workshop we’ll start with what we already know, see examples of how nothing is invented, how everything is transformed and how nature serves as an inspiration for human creation, from the construction of everyday objects to the drawings of fearsome monsters, which seem to come from another planet! And using these discoveries, with the aid of drawing and collage, let's explore imagination and creativity, to build a truth that is stranger than fiction!Design and Coordination: André Rodrigues, Sónia Borges3-7 July, 14:00-17:00
Art_MixHow many forms of art do you know? To respond you must try out various types of art. We’ll be painters, sculptors, photographers, designers and even musicians. During one week we’ll explore the fantastic world of the arts and discover various ways of working. Design and Coordination: Raquel Correia, Sónia Borges10-14 July, 9:30-12:3031 July-4 August, 9:30-12:3021-25 August, 14:00-17:00
Photo and GraphyThe worlds of photography and drawing will merge and contaminate each other with ideas and techniques. What if we draw at the same speed that we take photographs? What if a picture is drawn? What if, through drawing, we create a reality that will only exist in our photographs? Let's explore the relationship between two seemingly distinct artistic areas, but which may actually be true BFF's! Design and Coordination: Raquel Sambade17-21 July, 9:30-12:30
Sound landscapeAn immense and endless soundtrack, to which we can all contribute! Even with our silence! At all times, everywhere, there is something that defines the landscape, and sound is part of it. We call it the "sound landscape".Close your eyes! As we walk through the Park we can hear sounds that we don’t usually pay attention to. We can record these sounds, draw them, reproduce them, and transform them. We can even build maps and landscapes. And what sound does sound have?! Design and Coordination: André Rodrigues, Raquel Sambade17-21 July, 14:00-17:00
Plants and legendsOn a journey of discovery through Serralves Park, via drawings, collages, photographs and notes, we’ll build a creative herbarium, with ancient stories and legends that have survived for millennia. Even today, some of our beliefs are based on them. Did you know that if you step on a bit of St. John's Wort, before going to bed, goblins will keep you awake all night? Discover what this plant is and learn this and other legends and collect them in a craft book. 100% made by you!Design and Coordination: Raquel Correia, Sónia Borges31 July-4 August, 14:00-17:0014-18 August, 14:00-17:00
Little big worldsThe size of your body will help us to better understand the world around us. In Serralves Park, in the Museum and in the Pedagogical Farm, we’ll discover tiny realities that hide secret worlds. Let's observe them with the magnifying glass, enlarge them in drawings, paintings and constructions to compose an exhibition of extended worlds.Design and Coordination: Joana Nascimento, Sofia Santos7-11 August, 9:30-12:30
Stencils, stamps and other creatures!Other creatures? What, a hippophant or ... a tigraffe ?! Well, we won’t find this out now. Do we first have to use stamps or stencils... ?!The materials we’ll need are very simple to find: fabrics, papers and brushes. The paints can’t be missing and almost anything goes, we can even use a pastry roll! After everything is over, we’ll discover the creatures!Design and Coordination: Magda Silva, Rita Faustino7-11 August, 14:00-17:00
Bairro AltoWhat's your home like? How many windows does it have? Is it a house with a garden or is it in a very tall building? Does the whole family fit in there? Are there many neighbours? What about your street? How would you draw your neighbourhood?Have you ever heard of the favelas in Brazil, the "ilhas” (housing settlements) in Porto or the Bairro Alto in Lisbon? Each neighbourhood, street, community and set of neighbours are different from each other.Come and be part of our Bairro Alto, and build several neighbouring houses, which can be combined in height, either as a building with homes piled one on top of each other, or as houses on a hill, which, side by side, extend up the slope! How many houses will you have, what colours, and what shapes? Who and how many people will live there?Design and Coordination: Raquel Correia, Sónia Borges14-18 August, 9:30-12:3021-25 August, 9:30-12:30
To the Arts!We have all heard the word "contemporary" so many times, but do we know what it really means? And what about contemporary art? During one week we’ll see, talk, think and work around works of art made by some of today’s most important artists. At the end of this workshop we’ll either be specialists or ... contemporary artists ourselves?!Design and Coordination: Raquel Sambade28 August-1 September, 9:30-12:30
Magic - scientifically unveiledIn a school of magic, scientists learn witchcraft, and magicians become scientists. Let's open the book of (im)possible experiments and unravel some of the magician's best kept secrets.Magic or Science, what will be the verdict at the end of this week?Design and Coordination: Mundo Científico, Lda.26-30 June, 9:30-12:3010-14 July, 14:00-17:007-11 August, 14:00-17:0021-25 August, 9:30-12:30
Lá fora (Outside)Let's start with the discovery of Nature, based on the idea of exploring the award-winning book, "LÁ FORA" (Outside). A walk via organised trails through the Wood, the Lake, the Farm and Serralves Gardens will guide our curiosity to discover what lies hidden in nature, only occasionally glimpsed. The tasks to be attributed to the true naturalists in the Park include collecting water, rocks or leaves, identifying clouds or building scientific collections.Design and Coordination: Mundo Científico, Lda.3-7 July, 9:30-12:3017-21 July, 14:00-17:0031 July-4 August, 9:30-12:3014-18 August, 14:00-17:0028 August-1 September, 9:30-12:30
Scientific expeditionArmed with tweezers, binoculars, nets and trays, we’ll set off on a biodiversity adventure in  Serralves Park. Where do the Robins and the Swallowtail butterflies fly? Where are the shrews, newts, and lizards hiding? As true researchers, we will record all our discoveries and observations on a mobile phone, tablet or computer, so that other scientists can learn from our expeditions!Design and Coordination: Mundo Científico, Lda.3-7 July, 14:00-17:0017-21 July, 9:30-12:3031 July-4 August, 14:00-17:0014-18 August, 9:30-12:3028 August-1 September, 14:00-17:00
Scientists schoolThis course for Scientists inevitably includes the topics of meteorology, paleontology, chemistry and physics! Magnetic rocks, explosive liquids, weather stations or electrostatic phenomena capable of leaving the hair standing on end, so many challenges to overcome in order to win a scientist's diploma!Design and Coordination: Mundo Científico, Lda.10-14 July, 9:30-12:307-11 August, 9:30-12:3021-25 August, 14:00-17:00
A branch, a lineLet’s explore the nooks and crannies of Serralves Park, staying alert, and discovering beyond the immediately obvious. Let's think about making things - with and in Nature. We’re an integral part of what surrounds us and involves us. We’ll observe and feel the dynamics of the environment, slowing down the normal time of our senses. Let’s listen to the leaves and the animals, and feel things that are cold, rough, wet and slippery ...Using a process of experimentation, including taking risks, making mistakes, rethinking, discussing and recording, we’ll make a creative intervention to represent our intense and genuine relationship with Nature. Branches, leaves and pebbles will be transformed into sculptures, exhibited in the open-air museum of the garden. What will happen to them from one day to the next? Will they disappear or become something else?Design and Coordination: André Rodrigues, Sónia Borges3-7 July, 9:30-12:3017-21 July, 9:30-12:30
Compasses, sculptures and adventuresTake seventeen steps north and then turn left after the tallest tree you’ll ever see.The adventure begins by walking through the Park from one end to the other and finding and interacting with the sculptures located therein. But what will we do with our findings? Open the envelope and follow the directions ...! Without losing our compass, mirror, or direction, let’s see and do everything that can happen!Design and Coordination: Andreia Coutinho, Magda Silva3-7 July, 14:00-17:0010-14 July, 9:30-12:3031 July-4 August, 14:00-17:0021-25 August, 14:00-17:00
Arquiteturices! If you close your eyes do you know the way home? How well do you know the city where you live? How many bridges are there. How many gardens, buildings or streets? In a genuine conversation for mini-architects, using adults’ tools - such as maps, squares, or scales - we'll construct our imagined city, built to scale. We want to include in this ideal city, our imaginary city, the houses, gardens, forests and public spaces, or everything that we know or and don’t know! This way you can become a true architect.Design and Coordination: Carlos Carvalho10-14 July, 14:00-17:0031 July-4 August, 9:30-12:30
The magic of chlorophyll!Pruning, weeding, sowing, are some of the tasks undertaken by those who care for plants. Let's roll up our sleeves and get busy, Serralves Farm’s vegetable garden awaits us! Building an aromatic garden, or a mini vegetable garden, with the fresh scent of mint and the sweet smell of strawberries born in the middle of tender lettuces is one of the projects for a few days spent in the fields!Design and Coordination: Carlos Carvalho17-21 July, 14:00-17:007-11 August, 9:30-12:30
Blank bookThere are books that we have to rip, fold, get wet ..! They are books that have no stories, but instead contain experiences and challenges that transform this object into an entire world of possibilities, ours alone. It will take a good dose of creativity and daring to create a book together that will make us produce ... nonsense!Design and Coordination: Raquel Sambade, Sónia Borges28 August-1 September, 14:00-17:00
