1309 Imaginação Radical

On September 13, 2025, at 5:00 pm, the Serralves Pop Up at Time Out Market Porto will host a reading circle and conversation dedicated to the work of Audre Lorde, a central figure in Black feminism and contemporary literature, and one of the major influences on Zanele Muholi.
The gathering will also feature the presentation of Audre Lorde’s books “Irmã Marginal”, “Sister Outsider”, and “Zami: A New Spelling of My Name — A Biomythography.”
This event creates a space for encounter and exchange around the poetic and political tactics of Black queer women, exploring the relevance and transformative power of literary and artistic expression.
The session will be led by Geanine Escobar (she/her) — a Black lesbian researcher, curator, and community museology activist, currently a PhD candidate in Museology at Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa and an FCT fellow. Her research focuses on techniques of safeguarding and preserving LGBTQ+ memories, the political and artistic uses of documentary photography, with emphasis on Black lesbian epistemologies in the diaspora, as well as the challenges related to quilombola and queer curatorial practices within the field of museology.
Guest speaker Soltanaterra (she/her) is a Black Brazilian trans researcher, performer, and writer. Her practice blends together imagination, spirituality, memory, science, and art, activating possible encounters between ways of thinking, feeling, and narrating the world.

This initiative is promoted by the Serralves Bookshop, as part of its literary initiatives program.
Starting at 6:00 pm, the Time Out Market will host a free-entry DJ party.

Curatorship & Mediation: Geanine Escobar

Soltanaterra (she/her) is a 22-year-old Black Brazilian trans researcher, performer, and writer. Her practice interweaves art, spirituality, and science in dialogue with memory and imagination, exploring the power of narratives as a way to engage more sensitively and profoundly with the present. In 2023, she carried out an intervention at the Galeria Municipal de Lisboa and took part in the project A Resistência dos Vaga-lumes, supported by DGArtes, which explored queer Brazilian immigrant narratives in Portugal. The following year, she completed the Art and Creation program at the Teatro Nacional Dona Maria II, had her text Herdeiras da Terra Seca selected by AUA, and further developed her research around stories that traverse body and territory. In September 2025, she was accepted into the international residency TTT – Terror Treme Terra (Portugal, Iceland, Austria), dedicated to ecological and climate issues in the European territory, consolidating her path as an artist who weaves memory and imagination into a confluence capable of reconstituting both our own history and the history of the world.
