Eighth and final session of the cycle of films and talks Modos de Rever: Cinema e o Imaginário do Museu, with programming and moderation by Isabel Lopes Gomes. Following on from the previous cycle, which explored the rapprochement between cinema and the plastic arts, this second session seeks to reflect on the representations of the museum in cinema, in different periods of its history and up to the present day. This final session will feature a screening of Manoel de Oliveira's O Dia do Despero (1992), followed by a discussion with António Preto, director of the Manoel de Oliveira Cinema House, and Joana Matos Frias, professor of literature, moderated by Isabel Lopes Gomes.

Day of Despair tells the true story of the last years of the eminent 19th century Portuguese writer Camilo Castelo Branco. This evocation is fundamentally based on some of his letters. The texts are here the guiding thread of the dramatic evolution of a virile, polemical and romantic man who contrasted with a funereal and unstable spirit. Camilo sinks without remission into an intimate conflict, ""a drama in people"", as Fernando Pessoa would say. Filmed in Camilo's house in São Miguel de Seide, Day of Despair is also a skilful example of Manoel de Oliveira's treatment of filmic space where, through the structure of the guided tour, the house alternates between the writer's 19th century home and its current usage as a museum.
