Performance, 80’

Concept, creation and performance: Gui B.B

Sound design: Jad Mroue

Glass piece: Geneviève Grenier

Technical assistant: Arnaud Rochefort-Allié

In a long spectral bodily poem, Gui B.B dives into a complex exploration of the experience with debt. They investigate how it is borne and fought in the body itself. The artist establishes a trans-symbolic space where ambiguity, uncertainty, hypervulnerability, and chaos are claimed. Thus, we are invited into a haunted space where the inherent precariousness of an indebted life is confronted and transformed into vital force. Along the way, their own ghost is exuded, offering the body as a sacrifice when it fails to be more than just a system.

Gui B.B is an experimental performance artist. Their collaborative and solo work has been presented at various venues and festivals (L'Écart, OFFTA, Darling Foundry, La RIPA, Festival d'art performatif de Trois-Rivières, Art Souterrain). They have also presented work in alternative spaces, where they self-explore the medium of performance and its potential for imposture and healing. Reflecting on performance as a world-building practice, they develop undisciplined performative statements in which theatricality, irony, and voice emerge as central materials. By engaging different forms of kinship, their process brings forth new constellations, possible reconfigurations of dominant narratives. In an excess of object-gestures, they create spaces where the audience can experience nonsense, an eruption of changes to normative identifications. More recently, they have been developing a D.I.Y. visual, textual, and sound lexicon that refers directly to science fiction, with iconographic and philosophical research on non-human life forms and speculative narratives.

Their references and concepts sometimes dissolve into forgetting and aggregation. They neglect back, voice, and memory, and allow themself time never to be too prepared in advance.
