Second session of the Carte Blanche to Luis Miguel Cintra, a film programme parallel to the exhibition Luis Miguel Cintra - Small Theatre of the World. Challenged to select a set of significant films from his career as a theatre and film actor, this Carte Blanche presents itself as a cohesive but heterogeneous set of films which have been absolute milestones from the experience of Luis Miguel Cintra as an actor and filmgoer. This session will feature a screening of Paulo Rocha's "A Ilha dos Amores" (1982), one of only two films in this programme in which Luis Miguel Cinta is an actor.

This film depicts the life of the 19th-century Portuguese writer Wenceslau De Moraes by means of nine ancient ballads from China. The writer married a Chinese woman after he left his wife and family to go live in Macao. Later, he moved to Japan where he fell in love with a Japanese woman, staying in Japan for the rest of his life. Mixed in with the career and loves of Moraes, Paulo Rocha dedicates equal attention to the history of Portugal at home and in its colonies.
