GERMAINE KRUIP, A Possibility of an Abstraction: Square Dance: 9 SEP (SAT), 14h00 (Park), 17h30 (Villa), 19h00 (Villa)
Dancer: Huseyin Kara Duration: 20’
Closely connected to the culture of Sufism, whirling dervishes perform a ritualistic circular dance in order to try and reach a state of transcendence. Since 2011, Dutch artist Germaine Kruip has been creating installations and performances examining the various meanings attached to geometrical shapes. Here she presents her A Possibility of An Abstraction: Square Dance. Kruip asked the dervishes to break through their circular dance patterns and introduce the pattern of a square into their ritual, thereby shifting the dancers' focus and alluding to the tradition of abstract geometrical art.
Germaine Kruip lives and works in Amsterdam and Brussels. Since moving from theatre to the art world in the early 2000s, Kruip has been pursuing several lines of thought and work: her interest in ephemerality and where it condenses briefly into a physical or visual moment; in scenography of uncontrollable or ungraspable phenomena, such as the ever-changing daylight and the passage of time; in ritual and performance as abstracted moments of everyday life; in historical and art historical examples of attempts to reach abstraction by means of geometry – and finally in the desires, theories and ideologies that underlie these attempts.
Germaine Kruip received the Charlotte Köhler Prize in 2001, the Prix de Rome (2nd prize) in the category theatre/autonomous art, and the Best Solo exhibition prize at Art Brussels 2015.Recent Solo Exhibitions include; A Possibility of an Abstraction, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, NL (2017); Geometry of the Scattering, Oude Kerk, Amsterdam, NL (2015-2016); Seeing the Unseen, Art Brussels with Sofie Van de Velde, BE (2015); A Possibility of an Abstraction, EMPAC, US (2014); Geometric Exercises, Parra & Romeo, Madrid, ES (2013); A Possibility of an Abstraction, The Approach, London, UK (2012); A Room, 24 Hours II, Parra & Romero, Madrid, ES and the Approach, London, UK (2010); Only the Title Remains, Museum De Paviljoens, Almere, NL (2009-2010); Aesthetics as a Way of Survival, Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf, DE (2009).

Breath is a flow between life and death. Breathing marks a temporal passage. Breathing is the first autonomous action that infuses life to an individual, while the end of breathing is the definitive sign of our disappearance. "The Forgetting of Air" is a performance that grounds the idea of air as territory of exchange, for reflection on the migration processes. The material shared is air itself which can generates proximity and distance at the same time. The performers act in the same space of the audience who is invited to define the time of their stay, deciding how and for how long being part to this passage of time that brings together words, gestures, actions and thoughts.

ALESSANDRO BOSETTI, Acqua Sfocata: 10 SEP (SUN), 14H00-19H00, Museum Galleries
Acqua sfocata, utilità del fuoco ed altre risposte concentriche(Durational performance for non professional vocal ensemble).Participants: Luís Baptista, Cristina Braga, Diana Combo, Marcos Cruz, Marta Raquel Fonseca, Pedro Fortuna, Ana Guimbra, Alexandre Lemos, Maria do Carmo Pessanha Moreira, João Pedro Terras, Patrícia Timóteo.Duration: 5 hours.
In this durational performance volunteers of very diverse backgrounds are invited to enact a linguistic sculpture that is constructed by a set of almost geometrical rules, which organize, modulate, and musically morph a seemingly casual and unprompted conversation. A prompter proposes models of interactions, break symmetries and playing with the ambiguity between speech and sound. Over a duration of five hours the participants find themselves inhabiting a simulated geography and polyphony of relations, free of using language as they please, and to talk about whatever they like within an alternative universe as if logical and physical laws regulating language. Spectators may find themselves observing casual and seemingly irrelevant conversations subtly develop into clusters of abstract vocals and absolutely normal exchanges, reformulating their logical coherence over and over.
Alessandro Bosetti (Milano, Italy, 1973) is a composer, performer and sound artist whose works delve on musicality of spoken language, utilizing misunderstandings, translations and interviews as compositional tools. His works for voice and electronics blur the line between electro acoustic composition, aural writing and performance. One of the most innovative radio artists of his generation he created a vast body of work of hybrid, award winning, text-sound and radio compositions for the main Radio's and Electro Acoustic Music studios in Europe as WDR, Deutschland Radio Kultur, Radio France, ABC Australia, ORF, GRM/Presences Electroniques. Current projects include the abstract polyphony dispositive Plane/Talea, The Notebooks based on Leos Janacek speech melodies archives, the monophonic extravaganzas Mini and Maxigolf with Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Trophies a powerful speech-loop trio with drummer Tony Buck and fretless guitarist Kenta Nagai and Mask Mirror an instrument and software that reorganizes speech for musical purposes enacting a form of electronic ventriloquism.
