This exhibition brings together
works by Pedro Cabrita Reis (Lisbon, 1956) from the Serralves Collection and
new works created by the artist for this presentation, which is spread
throughout the city of Faro, covering three exhibition spaces: the Municipal
Museum of Faro, Associação 289 and Galeria Arco.
Cabrita's work became crucial to
the understanding of sculpture from the mid-1980s onwards. His complex artistic
practice, characterized by an idiosyncratic philosophical and poetic discourse,
encompasses a wide variety of media: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing,
and installations composed of found materials and manufactured objects. The use
of a wide range of materials of great simplicity, the constant dialogue with
the history of art, and the combination of memories, gestures, and actions of
daily life, accentuate the strong metaphorical impetus of Cabrita’s creations.
The
presentation of Cabrita: Four Sculptures and a Self-Portrait in Faro integrates the Touring Exhibitions
Programme of the Serralves Collection that furthers the Foundation´s aim of making the collection visible and
accessible to the public across the country. This exhibition was organized in
partnership with the artist and the Municipality of Faro.
